Welcome back! Updates from Africa Cultural Promotion Center

A Journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step!

With the summer behind us and kids back to school, there is a return to some sort of normalcy and routine for parents. As we move towards the last quarter of 2021 and welcome the autumn, here is a quick look at what the summer was like at the Africa cultural Promotion Center (ACPC). Welcome to my first blog as managing director of ACPC.

The Birth of ACPC

Africa Cultural Promotion Center

At the end of April, I bid farewell to my colleagues after 13.5 years at Zein Childcare. I also closed my sole proprietorship company Mollynn Cares that have been running since 2011. I made these two bold steps because I want to focus on serving the African community in The Netherlands and the rest of the diaspora. This led to the birth of the Africa Cultural Promotion Center BV (ACPC) which was incorporated in May in The Hague. I still can't get over the excitement and thrill of waking up every day to make my dream come true. So far it has been and is still  a learning process but I am enjoying every step of the process. I have an amazing team to work with. They have done a great job of downloading and organising the jumbled story of ideas in my head and making it into tangible results. Please have a look at our brand new website www.theacpc.nl to get a feel of where we are so far. Your feedback is important to us.

Let me update you on where we are and give you a peek into where we are headed.

Our first official activity of the Cultural Center was the Tales from Africa Summer Camp. After the success, we had with the Kids Culture Club seminars last summer of 2020 under Mollynn Cares, and incorporating feedback from the parents and children, we organised and had a successful summer camps this year. More exciting is that this year's summer camps were full days and with trips to fun locations.

Summer camp 2021.

This camp run over 5 Fridays. It brought together 23 children ages 4-14 years old from 7 African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.

The theme this year was "TALES FROM AFRICA SUMMER CAMP". The children enjoyed coming together, meeting new friends and playing with old friends, learning more and connecting with African culture through African food, African Folk stories, African games and storybooks by African authors. We also visited fun places like Plaswijck park in Rotterdam, Avontura in Delft, Monkeybos in Wassenaar and Storm Aquapark in Leidschendam. All these trips provided opportunities for children to have an adventurous summer. You can see some of the video highlights here

At the end of the camp, we had an evaluation meeting where the children wrote down their evaluation but some took the opportunity to share the evaluation as a presentation to the whole group. It was a good show of confidence and presentation skills.

We are curious to know your experience and that of your child with about to the Summer Camp. Your feedback will help us improve and fill any gaps to provide a better experience for your child. All information will be confidential and anonymous. Thank you for your time. Please give your feedback here
